Hospital Paediatrics Project Grant

The Hospital Paediatrics Project Grant was created to encourage scholarly initiatives related to clinical care, education or quality improvement in the field of hospital paediatrics. The grant provides up to $2,000 in start-up project funding to hospital paediatricians.

Nominations

Nominations

Applicants must:

  • Be members of the CPS; and
  • Be physicians providing clinical care in the paediatric inpatient setting in Canada.
  • Be a principal investigator (PI) or Co-PI on the project

Please note that pediatric fellows who have Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification in pediatrics are eligible to apply.

Project must:

  • Be consistent with the vision of enhancing general paediatric inpatient care in Canada; and
  • Support local pilot initiatives which may then allow the investigator to develop the basis for an application for further support through conventional granting mechanisms; and
  • Have institutional research ethics board approval for any patient-oriented research; and
  • Consistent with the CPS Code of Ethics.

Submissions

Submissions must include:

  • A project proposal (maximum 2 pages, not including citations), including:
    • Goal of project and relevance to general paediatric inpatient care in Canada;
    • Scope of project (clinical care, education, quality improvement);
    • Background;
    • Detailed description, including: context in which project will be conducted, project methodology with rationale, data to be collected, data sources, data analysis;
    • Dissemination plan
  • A detailed budget (maximum 1 page). Requests can include costs for supplies, minor equipment, and salaries for support personnel. Funds are not to be used for faculty salaries or indirect costs. Research assistant time and technical support can be included in the budget; however, the requested expense for their time must be clearly justified. Travel reimbursement is limited to local travel for research purposes and travel to locations with pertinent resources for the proposed study. Funding is for one year; however, a non-funded extension up to one year may be requested.
  • A letter of support from the department chair or supervisor assuring approval of the planned study (maximum 1 page).
  • An abbreviated curriculum vitae (maximum 3 pages).

All successful applicants will be required to present a short report about their project and the impact of the grant funding at the annual Section of Hospital Paediatrics AGM and/or during the Section of Hospital Paediatrics’ Section Programming at the CPS Annual Conference.

Current members of the CPS Board of Directors, related Section executive and reviewing committee members are not eligible for nomination and cannot nominate candidates while serving their terms. They also cannot be members of the project team.
