Webinar series explores best practices in providing care for patients new to Canada

Do you want to know how to better serve immigrant and refugee families in your practice? Join us for a series of free webinars based on content from Caring for Kids New to Canada.

Dr. Morton Beiser and Dr. Priya Watson will host the next session on December 5 about the mental health of immigrant and refugee kids.

Thanks to funding from the Canadian Institutes for Health Research, the CPS is working with CHNET-Works to deliver this webinar series for health professionals and others who provide care for newcomer kids. Topics include mental health, child development, and advocacy.

The series was launched in September 2014 with a session on culture and health delivered by Dr. Dzung Vo and Dr. Maureen Mayhew. In October, Dr. Bob Hilliard and Dr. Andrea Hunter presented on the initial medical assessment of immigrant and refugee children.

Following the upcoming session on mental health, the next webinar is January 27, 2015, when Dr. Cecilia Baxter and Dr. Bill Mahoney present on child development. The series runs monthly until March 2015.
